DlhSoft components for Metro style apps and related new technologies
Microsoft® has recently unveiled their roadmap for Windows® 8 and their related plans for development tools and frameworks (the future application platform).
For your information, DlhSoft can confirm that it is closely investigating all the new open opportunities that developers are going to have in this direction of the future and, as Microsoft continues it release process for Windows® 8, .NET Framework 4.5 (including WPF 4.5), Silverlight™ 5, and Visual Studio® 11,
we will continue to evaluate the preview and release candidate products in order to determine whether (or, rather, when) we should start building and release new libraries,
providing developers with direct access to our pre-existent (and also updated and new) software components, leveraging the features of the new platforms.
To conclude, there are a few directions that we are currently investigating:
- Metro style apps and WinRT in Windows® 8: When building Metro style applications, you target the new Windows® Runtime library (WinRT), a set of client side APIs for the new Windows® 8 shell experience. We aree currently investigating whether (or, rather, when) to start developing new products in order to enable you to build WinRT based applications using DlhSoft components, such as the tree-grid, Gantt Chart and Schedule Chart controls that are already available for Desktop Apps (i.e. standard WPF and Silverlight™ applications).
- WPF in .NET 4.5: We are currently investigating whether a full re-build (including minor updates, if needed) of some of our WPF products is required and appropriate. Among other updates targetting WPF 4.5, we could add a new sample application to our Gantt Chart Light Library product showing how to use the new Build.Delay property in order to improve runtime performance while dragging and dropping task bars using data bound Thumb objects).
- Silverlight™ 5: We are currently investigating whether a full re-build (including minor updates, if needed) of some of our Silverlight™ products is required and appropriate. Among other updates targetting Silverlight™ 5, we could add a new sample application to our Gantt Chart Light Library product showing how to use the new SourceUpdateTrigger.PropertyChanged enumeration value withing column Binding definitions in order to get the chart automatically update while editing grid cell values instead of waiting until a row focus change).
